Artist's Description

This is a 24"x36" painting called ' Frida and Diego '. In the center is The Virgin of Guadalupe, know affectionally as The Queen of Mexico, blessing two of Mexico's greatest and most beloved artists, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Diego said of his wife Frida, " She extolled the feminine characteristics of resistance, honesty and authenticity. Never had a woman depicted on canvas such agonizing poetry as Frida did." Frida said, " They thought I was a surrealist, but I wasn't. I never painted dreams or nightmares; I painted my own reality." Diego was of Spanish, African, Italian, Jewish, Russian and Portuguese descent. He was well known to have sympathy with the downtrodden masses.
