This is a 10X 10" sculpted relief of Hygia, the Goddess of Health in the Greco-Roman world. Her symbol of the serpent and cup is adopted by the American Pharmaceutical Association and used by pharmacies across Europe. Hygia's name is mentioned in the original Hippocratic Oath that the medical society uses today, as well as her father the great healer Aesculapius. Hygia taught that we can maintain our health and prevent disease by keeping the body clean and living in accordance with natural law. This allows the body to use its amazing innate powers of self-healing.
