This is a 10" X 10" sculpted relief of Kwan Yin, the Goddess of compassion and mercy and referred to as the most beloved Buddhist deity. When Kwan Yin was young, she refused a marriage her father had arranged for her to an older rich merchant, he eventually had her killed. In the land of the dead Kwan Yin relieved the pain and suffering of the souls there by releasing all the good karma she had accumulated through her many lifetimes. Flowers blossomed at her feet, Hell became a paradise, the souls knelt in front of her out of gratitude and respect. The guardian of the underworld banished Kwan Yin from the kingdom of the dead...How's that for the power of compassion? This is KWAN YIN.
