Artist's Description
The Mermaid Handstand Contest is an 11 "X14" acrylic painting from my homeland of Cape Cod, from the Mermaid Series. Growing up in Provincetown, at the beach you would almost always see kids doing handstand contests in waist deep water. My daughter, Eden, included, I would give her an eight or a nine but most of the time a perfect ten, she was that good. This said, don't you think it is but a small leap of the imagination to see mermaids having their own Handstand Contest.
About James RODERICK
James Joseph Roderick grew up in Provincetown, Cape Cod, Massachusetts in the 50's and 60's and attended the Art Institute of Boston in the early 70's. Since moving to Colorado in the mid-nineties, his art has fully turned into an honoring of the Goddess, the Divine Feminine in us all. He has painted over 60 images of The Virgin of Guadalupe.
